Do I need a license to do business in Wyoming, Michigan?

All businesses in Wyoming, Michigan require business licenses. You can obtain a Wyoming business license by completing and submitting a business license application, which you can find online at the Wyoming City Clerk’s Office Website: http://www.ci.wyoming.mi.us/ForBusinesses/BusinessLicense.asp.

Any time your business changes owners, name, or location, you will need to apply for a new business license that reflects the changes. You will also need to pay the required fees.

Even some businesses that operate in Wyoming but are not based in the city must apply for a business license. These kinds of businesses include taxi, snowplow, and trash collector companies. Besides the basic business license application, some specialty businesses must submit an addendum to their application and pay an additional fee. What information does the Wyoming business license application require?

On the City of Wyoming Business License Application, you will need to provide the business owner’s name and whether the business is operated by a sole proprietor, a partnership, or a corporation. You will need to know the date that the business opened or will open and the owner’s mailing address and contact information.

The application asks for an FEIN, a state tax ID number, and a state license number. If you have questions about any of these items, you can contact the Wyoming City Clerk’s Office.

You will be asked for the business name, address, phone and fax numbers, and a brief description of the business. You will also need to indicate the business classification. The application includes a list of Business Activity Codes. You will need to choose which classification best describes your business and indicate the appropriate Business Activity Code as the Business Classification.

If you renew your business license late, you will have to pay a penalty. After 30 days, the penalty is 25% and after 90 days the penalty is 50%.
