How can we apply for our marriage license in the City of Brockton, MA?

You and your spouse-to-be will need to physically go in person to the City Clerk of Brockton apply for your marriage license, also known as the Massachusetts Certificate of Marriage. The office is found at:

Be cautious that your marriage license is only valid for a time period of 60 days from the date of issuance. If the Certificate of Marriage expires, then you and your fiancé will have to repeat the process and pay the fee once more. Couples in Massachusetts must be at least 18 years old, minors ages 15-17 must gain permission from their legal guardian and in some cases, the permission of a juvenile court as well. You do not have to be a resident to be married in the state and you and your fiancé can apply at any town or city that you wish, the application will be recognized throughout the state. Same sex couples are permitted to be married anywhere in the state, however, if you are an out-of-state couple, then the marriage may not be recognized by your home state.

What fee will we need to pay to receive our Brockton Marriage Certificate?

The Massachusetts Marriage Certificate itself is $20, the Intent to Marry form costs $45. The total cost to receive your marriage license or Massachusetts Marriage Certificate is $65. The City of Brockton does not accept checks as a form of payment, however, debit and credit cards that are Visa or Mastercard or cash are acceptable methods of payment.

Will we be required to obtain a blood test for our Brockton marriage license or Massachusetts Marriage Certificate?

No, blood tests are no longer a requirement to successfully obtain your marriage license. However, appropriate proof of identity will be mandated of both you and your fiancé in order to receive your marriage license. Acceptable forms of identity proof are: a DMV issued driver’s license or a DMV issued photo I.D. card or a military card or a passport. If you choose to bring your birth certificate as proof, then make sure that you also have an accompanying photo I.D. of some kind.
