If one of you is a resident of New Jersey, you may apply in any township or city and the marriage license is valid throughout the entire state. If you are both out-of-state residents, then you will be mandated to apply for the marriage license in the area where the ceremony will take place. You will both need to supply personal details like names, parental information, ages (this is done by presenting your DMV issued photo identification or passports) and proof of residency (normally through a birth certificate or a federal card.) In addition to both you, the bride and the groom, going to the office to apply, you also need to bring a witness to attest to the application.
