In Virginia, there are state governed licensing boards that oversee the issuance of specialized licensing for occupations like engineers, real estate agents, attorneys, and physicians with many more. The professions demand specified education and the successful completion of certain examinations. Moreover, there is not just one “standard” business license that is state-granted, but there are many more business licenses that are issued at the local levels that may be more generalized. In cities, towns and counties alike the business license is commonly referred to as the Business License Tax and is a way to simultaneously assess tax and give permission to operate business in their area. All business in the state must register with the State Corporation Commission. You can go to our Virginia Business License webpage for further assistance.
